When asked why the rebooted series wouldn't turn into a trilogy, Ragnarok producer Cory Barlog said, "I think one of the most important reasons is the first game took five years. God of War: Ragnarok will release exclusively for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 and will mark the end of Kratos' Norse saga. It's likely that Kratos and Atreus will need to challenge the Son of Odin in their quest to stop Ragnarok. The towering, hammer-wielding warrior looks nothing like his Marvel Cinematic Universe counterpart, sporting the physique of a true strongman. Developer Sony Santa Monica received widespread praise from fans when Thor's design was revealed to the world. Kratos will be going up against a flurry of powerful enemies, none more striking than Thor, the Norse god of thunder. The footage shows Kratos and Atreus preparing for a violent war against the gods of Asgard as they recruit several allies like Magni, Modi, Mimir and Tyr.
The image of God of War: Ragnarok was originally released alongside the game's reveal trailer which debuted at the most recent PlayStation showcase.
